The human has been cycling for years and recently decided to start running again to supplement his exercise. Within days of starting a regular daily run, he developed shooting pains in his feet and shins.
“I thought I could just keep going,” says Alex, “I thought if I pushed through the pain, it would just go away. My kids told me to harden up.”
By the time Alex came into the clinic, he was hobbling along like an old man! He had a consultation with Nick and was given a few simple exercises and some advice on footwear. Alex purchased some new footwear and on his next visit to Nick, they discussed his running gait and some further exercises.
Alex is now running for 30 minutes every day without pain. He is booked in to do the Buller Half marathon next summer and is loving his new found energy.
“Most of the time when a client comes in, we can do a few simple changes that make a real difference,” says Nick. “There are occasions when someone needs more intense changes (like surgery) but don’t let that put you off. Our goal is to get you on your feet and enjoying it.”
